Trump Just Recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital — How the People Are Reacting Says It All

On Wednesday afternoon, President Donald Trump gave a speech from the White House and made the announcement he was officially recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

He stated:

“I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. While previous presidents have made this a major campaign promise, they failed to deliver. Today, I am delivering. I have judged this course of action to be in the best interest of the United States of America and the pursuit of peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

This is a long-overdue step to advance the peace process and to work towards a lasting agreement. Israel is a sovereign nation with the right like every other sovereign nation to determine its own capital. Acknowledging this as a fact is a necessary condition for achieving peace.”

Now, look how Israel is reacting to the news:

Banners were hung that read, “God Bless Trump from Jerusalem (David’s Capital) to Washington, D.C.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Trump.

The American flag was lit up next to the Israeli flag on the Jerusalem Old City walls.

The Chords Bridge in Jerusalem was lit up red, white, and blue.

Naftali Bennett, the leader of the Jewish Home party and a member of Netanyahu’s cabinet, thanked Trump.

Former ambassador of Israel Dan Gillerman appeared on Fox News and was ecstatic about the news.

He said:

“I wish I were in Jerusalem at that very moment witnessing that very emotional sight of the American flag and the Israeli flag celebrated by the Israeli people, and it is truly a great day for Israel. I believe it’s also a great day for America. The president has delivered a historic speech, but he’s also made history by recognizing history.

He has recognized the fact that all his predecessors promised to do this and failed while he is keeping his promise. He has also recognized something, which is a given, which is known, and that is that Jerusalem is the capital and will forever be the eternal capital of the state of Israel.

And by doing that, he’s shown courage, he’s shown vision, and I think he has also brought the peace process forward because he’s destroyed a lot of delusions, he’s woken up people from hallucinations and actually made to the dream of Jerusalem the capital of Israel something real, which the Palestinians will have to reconcile with, live with, and make peace with.”

And then there was Palestine, who burned the American flag in Gaza as Trump was making his declaration.
